In just two years, Haley Lybbert has made an immeasurable impact here at Spanish Oaks.  Upon graduating from UVU, Haley, as an intern, taught 2nd grade at Foothills Elementary in Payson for one year.  The next year she was ours, helping minds flourish, shaping futures and capturing the hearts of our 1st graders.  It isn't just students, though … Haley is adored by fellow faculty and staff.  She has left an impression on so many of us, whether it is the way she is always smiling, lending a helping a hand or just being a friend to anyone that needs it.  Two years ago, Haley Lybbert came into or lives, touched our hearts and now we have to say goodbye.

Miss Lybbert will not be returning to Spanish Oaks next school year because she will be living in Colorado Springs with her soon to be husband.  Haley's fiancé, Colby, is serving in the Army and is currently in Kuwait.  When Colby returns from overseas in four months, he will be stationed in Colorado Springs, hence the move there.  Haley and Colby are planning a September wedding and are eager to start their own little family.

Family is important to Haley, and her family even influenced her career choice.  She jokes that it is genetic because her “entire family works for Nebo School District”.  Genetic or not, teaching is a great fit for Haley.  She loves kids and wanted a career where she would be challenged, and where no day would be the same.  Making an impact and a difference in lives was also very important to Haley when deciding to go into teaching.

“I think my best and most touching teaching moments have happened not while teaching math or language arts… but during all those moments in between.  They have been the times when I felt I have touched a student’s heart and helped them to realize how amazing they are, and what they are capable of achieving.  Helping students recognize their worth and what they can accomplish not just in the future, but right now, is where some of my fondest and most treasured memories have been created.” These adorable 6yr olds make her feel like a super hero at times, and most people would agree with them … teachers are super heroes!

Some fun things I have learned about Miss Lybbert include:  she loves shopping at Payless and has 15 pairs of shoes, which is not nearly enough, she says.  She enjoys playing and watching sports.  Her favorite teams being: BYU, Utah Jazz, and the LA Angels.  Playing volleyball is her favorite sport to participate in.  In her free time Haley likes to go to the movies, Comedy Sports and play board games.  Her beverage of choice is orange juice or lemonade, and she loves strawberry cheesecake.

Spanish Oaks will not be the same without Haley Lybbert.  We will miss her warm smile, her beautiful laugh and giving personality.  When I asked her what she was going to miss she wrote back that she was glad that she was typing this instead of talking about it, because she is already starting to get emotional about it.  With tears in her eyes she replied: “I will definitely miss getting to watch these sweet little children that I have had the privilege of teaching grow up to be such smart, successful, confident kids.  I will also miss working at Spanish Oaks and for Nebo School District in general, because I feel that they have done such a great job at creating a welcoming, hardworking, supportive, family based community.  It is home to me.  Most of all I will miss all the people that have touched my heart, become some of my closest friends, and who have left a positive impact on my life.”

Thank you, Miss Lybbert, for your dedication!

Life is like a camera.  Just FOCUS on what's important, CAPTURE the good times, DEVELOP from the negatives, and if things don't work out just take another shot.  - Unknown
