Science Is Happening at Spanish Oaks!

Our 5th grade learns about physical changes and chemical reactions.   Discovery Gateway visited our school and taught us about chemistry and chemical reactions. They did really awesome demonstrations and then the students got to mix different chemicals in a lab session. Future chemists in the making!

Health and Wellness at Spanish Oaks

Tiffany Taylor

We are so excited to continue our Health and Wellness/Gold Medal School  focus at Spanish Oaks this year.  We want to thank all of our families for their enthusiasm to celebrate birthdays and special occasions with their child's class.  Due to the growing health concerns and allergies of many of our students, we would like to propose an alternative to the traditional "candy/sugar" treats.

The following are just a few suggestions:

  • A donation of your child's favorite book to the classroom library
  • Fun pencils and/or erasers
  • A goody bag with non-edible items

What a great way to support health and wellness at our school ... Let's be healthy, Explorers!

Teacher Spotlight of the Week

Jessica Babcock-Fifth Grade

Jessica Babcock grew up in Indiana, New York and Oklahoma with her family of seven.  She graduated Valedictorian in her high school, and then involved herself in tutoring and teaching challenging students.  She found she wanted to discover ways to make these students enjoy learning, and decided she wanted to be a teacher from that time on.  She loves country dancing, running and making other people laugh.  She takes great pride in putting a smile on someone’s face, and hopes to incorporate this humor into her classroom. Miss Babcock is doing a fabulous job in fifth grade this year, and already has the love of all her students.  Welcome, Miss Babcock!

Just Jumpin Into Reading at Spanish Oaks

The students at Spanish Oaks were excited to welcome the Just Jumpin' jump rope team to kick-off our "Jump Start Reading" reading program for the 2015-2016 school year.  "The best investment we can make in our community is to ensure that our children can read, and the Road to Success program is an effective way to make that investment."  Our reading goal this year is to read 2,500,000 minutes as a school.  Jump to it, Explorers ... Let's get reading!

Super Sentences in Second Grade

Katrina Graham, second grade teacher

"Mrs. Graham has a fluffy white hat."  "She has a big red cape, it is humongous."  "She has mismatched earrings, one is smooth one is bumpy."  These are just a few of the sentences that students wrote today as they practiced using adjectives in sentences by describing Mrs. Graham.
