Kindergarten students took a field trip  to Victor's Printing Shop where they got to help in the printing of  their Kindergarten t-shirts.   They loved watching the ink being put on their shirts and then catching the shirts as they came out of the drying oven.  What a great day!

At Spanish Oaks, We are Treasured … We MATTER!

Submitted by kali.brown on Fri, 09/09/2016 - 16:45

At Spanish Oaks … we MATTER!  Every person at our school has wonderful talents to share … amazing gifts to give … valued thoughts to impart.  We are important.   Each of us is a GENIUS … and the world needs our contribution.  We each have a gift that others need.   We are enough … We are the change.

During the first week of school, Mrs. Brown joined each of the classes and shared Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon.   We introduced our “treasures", thank you rewards, weekly winners, treasure boxes, etc.  The students learned how EVERY faculty and staff member at our school will have "coins" and be giving them out all year long to students they see doing things that matter, i.e., Mr. Billie might give one to a student using good manners in the lunchroom; Mrs. Downey might give one to a student who is a friend to someone in need; Mrs. Johnson might give one to a student who remembers to tell the truth and is honest, etc.  These "treasures" are then returned to the classroom teacher, where teacher keeps track of all “coins” for the whole month!

Every week teachers will send the name of someone in their class who has been a "treasure" that week.  We will announce their name(s) on Friday morning and invite them to come to the office for a special "thank you"!  Each weekly recipient will then get to add their personal quilt square to the “We Matter” quilt we have hanging outside the main office!!  They also get to choose a treasure from the giant treasure box.

In each classroom the teachers will keep track using our "coins" of all the times their students act in a treasured way ... At the end of the month teachers will turn in these totals and the winning class will earn a 'thank you' treasure reward.  At the end of the year we will have a whole-school celebration!

It is going to be a “Treasured” Year!

New "Eagle Scout" Pipe Chimes for Spanish Oaks

Submitted by kali.brown on Thu, 09/08/2016 - 16:17

"Playing handheld pipe chimes is a great activity for everyone.  Kids as little as 3 years old up to grandparents can join in the fun.  There is no musical talent required and knowing how to read sheet music is not needed.  They are great for small or large groups up to 23 people and can be used in almost any setting including school activities, holiday gatherings, church events, children activities, senior centers, family reunions, parties, group dates, scouts and even day care centers.  After you’ve played them once, you’ll want to keep playing and enjoy making simple music with those around you."

A special "thank you" to Andrew Stamm, soon-to-be Eagle Scout, for this amazing donation to our school.  "Handheld pipe chimes are a simple musical instrument that only requires you to hit your chime when it’s your turn in the song."  Let's play some music, Spanish Oaks!
