At the beginning of the year, each fifth grade class read the book Wonder by R. J. Palacio. The students learned the importance of treating everyone with respect and "being kinder than necessary." On Tuesday night, the fifth grade students and their families were all invited to go see Wonder together at the movie theater. It was a great movie, with even greater company.
Miss McKendrick's class loved learning about the brain through some hands-on science. Using the book "The Growth Mindset Coach", the class got into groups and put together their very own brain using Play-Doh. After each part was completed on their play-doh brain, they would test each other on the roles of each part: Pre-Frontal Cortex, Cerebrum, Cerebellum, Amygdala, Hippocampus, and Brainstem. Did you know your Amygdala helps you feel emotion? These kids do!
Thank you to all the students that entered and participated in PTA Reflections this year! The awards night (for Council winners) is December 7, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. in the Board Room at the Nebo School District Offices in Spanish Fork.

Mrs. Dimmick’s class spent the two days before Thanksgiving working on a class service project. They tied quilts for Project Linus and made paracord bracelets for Operation Gratitude. What a wonderful example of working hard and being kind!
Mrs. Dimmick’s class was lucky to have an AG in the Classroom visit ... Mrs. O’Gwin came to class and discussed with the students where their food comes from. They were able to see popcorn off of a popcorn cob. It was a great experience.

Thank you, Superintendent Nielsen, for the visit ... Be Kind, Show Respect and Work Hard at Spanish Oaks!
Today fourth graders used information from local grocery advertisements to create a Thanksgiving dinner for 6 under $60.00. Students are working hard to calculate how much they will spend per pound on turkey and what sides they would like to get.
