Chess EXTRA Practice at Spanish Oaks will be beginning on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 with Mrs. Laura Dyches. This is for 4th-6th grade students during their lunch time. We will meet in the Little Theater to play on Tuesday(s) and Thursday(s). This is ONLY for kids who already know how to play; we will not be teaching them how to play. We will play until March 15, 2018. This is a time for kids to practice chess for fun and, if they want, we will have some mini tournaments!

Our second grade students shared songs and information about their science core in their second grade program as we got to travel on the Magic School Bus with them and Ms. Frizzle. They did an excellent job and we all enjoyed their program. Special thanks to Miss Loomis, Miss Young, Mrs. Call and Mrs Lewis for all their hard work and dedication!
We once again have 5 fabulous students who have been nominated and chosen for our Excellent Explorer Award for term 2. Here are the lucky winners: Brendan Snyder: Brendan really participates, and loves school! He does his work correctly too, and he plays with classmates that are being left out. Maggie Jones: She makes me feel good inside and is very kind to people around her. She is also good at paying attention in class, and even out of school. Sadie Burtenshaw: She always takes initiative to pick up a piece of trash and she is nice to everybody, and plays with everyone. Jason Visentin: Jason is always helping others. He always volunteers to help both the students in our class and the teacher. He is patient with others and is a buddy to anyone who needs cheering up! Jamie Tiapson: She is always on task and I've seen her outside and there was this one kid who saw her and she came up to him and asked if he wanted to play. I've seen her more than once do that. She is probably one of the kindest people I've ever known. I've never seen her be rude or even mad.
Thank you, students, for your great example and choosing to: Be Kind ... Show Respect ... Work Hard!

What do Fossils Tell Us?
We know a lot about animals today because we can observe and analyze them in their habitats. What about the organisms that are now extinct? Do we know what they were like? We can tell a lot about a creature by the fossils that they left behind. These 4th graders can tell you what to look for in a fossil to learn about creatures long ago!
