Maple Grove Middle Logo/Mascot Contest

Submitted by kali.brown on Fri, 02/28/2020 - 14:15

 Maple Grove Middle Logo/Mascot Contest

There will be a student entry contest for the new mascot/logo of Maple Grove Middle School.  We would love to see what students think the logo and mascot (which is a bobcat) should look like.  We want to collect entries from feeder elementary students and then base the logo and mascot on what is submitted.  This contest will start now and continue through May.  The winning logo/mascot ,or a variation of it, will be used in the building (for example the entry floor) as well as for school swag, etc.  This contest is not intended to have strict guidelines - just any thing that could become our school mascot and/or logo.

We will collect entries tuned into our office.  Please make sure students include their name, their elementary school, and their parents name and contact information.  Students can also email their entry straight to nate.whitney@nebo.edu if it's a jpeg, PDF or some other electronic version.

Kindness Week Day 5

Submitted by sherri.peterson on Fri, 02/28/2020 - 14:04

We are finishing up our Kindness Week (but hopefully not our kindness).  It has been a great week, and we would like all of our staff and students to keep being kind in the forefront of their minds as we finish up the rest of our school year.

This morning's quotes were: "Kindness begins with one single smile!" by Noel and "If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all", anonymous (or actually Thumper I believe).  Our song was Two Heads Are Better Than One, and our challenge is to anonymously do something kind for a family member over the weekend.  Parents, you can watch for that one!  We enjoyed wearing hats today for our focus ... "Hats Off to Kindness".

Kindness Week Day 4

We are having so much fun here at Spanish Oaks this week!  It is amazing how the students have grabbed onto the idea of being kind and are helping other students, giving compliments and being all around more friendly and kind.

Our quotes for the day were: "One kind word can last forever" by Cody Drollinger, and "Not all of us can do great things, but we can do small things with great love" by Mason.  I love these!!  Thank you Cody and Mason.  Our song this morning was The Friendship Song, and our challenge is to ask someone about their day and then really listen to what they say.

Our activity is a school paper chain.  Each student is recognizing another student that has done something kind for them and writing it on a slip of paper that we will be making into a paper chain.  Come in and check it out :)  Here are some of the acts that have been recognized:

Jordan helped me pick up my stuff

One time when I was hurt Colten helped me up and took me to the office

Garrett walked me home

Chloe for being a good friend-Kara

Mrs. McClain is kind and helps us to learn things

These are just a few of the great things our students do!  Just a reminder that tomorrow is "Hats Off to Kindness."  Students can wear a hat :)

"Read More" Challenge at Spanish Oaks

Submitted by sherri.peterson on Thu, 02/27/2020 - 13:01

We enjoyed our Rodeo Reading Assembly yesterday, and are so appreciative of Spanish Fork City presenting that to us each year.  We had "horses" to ride, a hat stacking "barrel racing" contest, a shoelace tying contest, and a bike give away.  Our two bike winners were:  Jessica Bishop and Marleigh Loveless.  Congrats!!  Our reading goal for this year is 1,250,000.  That is 1,440 days or 34,560 hours of reading.  Wow!  That is a little higher than last year's goal, so they challenged us to "Read More!"  The Rodeo reading calendars will come home on Monday and the contest runs throughout that month.  Two students will then be drawn out to win boots, a cowboy hat and Wrangler jeans to wear to the Spanish Fork Rodeo, which they will also win 2 tickets to attend.  Also, 2 rodeo tickets will be given in each grade level.  That's worth reading for, right?  Let's get those books open, Explorers!

Kindness Week Day 3

Kindness Week-Day 3

We started off Day 3 with the following quotes from Jaiden Millard and Wrigley Henry: “You will never be forgotten if you’re kind,” and “To have a friend, you have to be a friend.”  Thanks for these awesome thoughts to keep in mind today.  Our song was “A Little Bit of Honey,” which got us dancing, and our challenge is to write a note of gratitude to any Spanish Oaks staff member.

Our activity for the day is to have each student finish the sentence “I love my school because . . .”   Here are some of their responses:

*It is inviting

*The school keeps us safe

*Everybody is nice in our school

*It has good, amazing teachers and staff and office members and principal   (numerous times!)

*I spend half the day with the people I love, doing what I love

*Because they care about me

*Everyone is kind and helpful and the teachers are understanding and everyone has teamwork

*They treat me like I belong

*Because I get to see my friends and I get a good learning education

*Because it’s a fun place to be at and there are such good people and good teachers and we have the BEST principal, so that makes this school 100x better!

Miss North

In Miss North’s class we have been working hard to show respect by following directions.  When we follow directions we earn a class point. As a class we voted that if we earned enough points we got to throw pies at our teacher.  We had fun throwing pies in Miss North’s face! :)

Kindness Week Day 2

Submitted by sherri.peterson on Tue, 02/25/2020 - 14:07

Day 2 in our Kindness Week has really been fun!  Our 2 quotes this morning were "being kind to friends is good, but being kind to everyone is better,"  by Katie Bennett and "Be the reason someone smiles today!" by Alli Christiansen.  What great things to remember!  Our song was I Like Being Me and our challenge has been smiling at 25 people throughout the day!

For a special activity we have been writing "thank you"messages to Superintendent Nielsen on large hearts we are going to hook together in a book and deliver to him (along with a cookie!).  We have also had some random and anonymous acts of kindness going on, such as little notes, compliments, etc.  It seems that kindness is contagious :)

Throughout the day we have been catching people being kind.  Each hour we have chosen 4 of these people to come to the office for a Kindness Treat.
