The first time I talked to Rachel was over the telephone.  I answered a phone call at the school and someone on the other end was crying.  I was having a hard time understanding what she was saying.  I remember it was something about, "... already have my classroom set up and now I'm suppose to come and teach at Spanish Oaks Elementary ..." in between sobs.  I tried to comfort her and let her know that she was going to love working at the BEST school around.  It has been an awesome road since that day.  I got a good friend, and the school got a wonderful teacher.  I have watched Rachel grow in confidence in her teaching ability and love for the students.  She supports me in the office.  If she comes into the office and it is crazy, Miss Hughes is answering the phone, writing notes, signing for UPS packages, getting ice ... whatever she can do to help.  But, most of all, she is a great friend.  She has been to my girl's wedding receptions and has supported me in everything she can.  Rachel isn't just 'true blue', she's a true friend.   Rachel is truly deserving of the Crystal Apple Award.  She goes the extra mile.  She has led the choir and the science fair, and has been a team leader.   Thank you, Miss Hughes, for sharing your talents with Spanish Oaks Elementary.  So, everybody rise and shout for Rachel Hughes ... our Crystal Apple Award winner!
