This year the third graders at Spanish Oaks are reading Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone. In the book, the students participate in a sorting ceremony which is a ritual performed at the beginning of each school year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Its purpose is to assign students to one of the four school HousesGryffindorHufflepuffRavenclaw, or Slytherin. This gives them the opportunity to learn and work with their house team throughout the year to earn house points and rewards for their hard work in school. On October 27th the third-grade students were excited to participate in their very own sorting ceremony. It was a fun and exciting event! The gym was decorated in the colors of each house and we had many parents come out to support and cheer the students on. Each student tried on the sorting hat and the hat identified important characteristics that the student possesses. Then the students were sorted into one of the four school houses; Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw or Slytherin. Our sixth grade also joined in on the fun by welcoming the newly sorted students into their houses.  After the sorting, the students were able to go back to class and learn about house points and how they will be working together as a team to earn rewards and participate in fun activities throughout the rest of the school year.
