We are so excited to continue our 'Race into Reading' reading program for the 2013-2014 school year.  “The goal of the program is to encourage improvement in literacy which will help develop daily and lifelong reading habits, specifically by READING EVERY DAY at least 20 minutes, to improve vocabulary, proficiency, and communication skills” (Garff, 2012).

THIS was our 1st awards assembly!   There were lots of great give-a-ways, including ... 2 Brand New Bikes!!!

Keep reading and turning in your tickets ... there are lots of chances to win!

"Where words fail, music speaks."  Hans Christian Anderson said it, but Mrs. Christensen showed it to us all with her beautiful  rendition of Taps at the Veteran's Day assembly.  She studied Medical Specialties after graduating from Spanish Fork High.  Camping or a trip to Disneyland would be a great place to find Mrs. Christensen, her hubby, and 4 great daughters!!

Veterans Day ... Monday, November 11

World War I – known at the time as “The Great War” - officially ended when the Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28, 1919, in the Palace of Versailles outside the town of Versailles, France.  However, fighting ceased seven months earlier when an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, between the allied nations and Germany went into effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month.  For that reason, November 11, 1918, is generally regarded as the end of “the war to end all wars.”

Scary Strings at Spanish Oaks

The orchestra students at Spanish Oaks had a wonderfully scary time the morning of Halloween practicing and showing off their costumes.  "It is very difficult to learn to play a stringed instrument, but they are making tremendous strides," says Mr. Hansen.  The young musicians are working on practicing their music diligently for our concert coming up on December 17.   They are an awesome bunch and definitely keep it lively!
