Miss Mellor's PM Kindergarten students had a great time learning about and making jelly fish in Art class this week with Mrs. Christensen. "They could hardly contain their excitement as they swam back into our room to show off their projects to me," said Miss Mellor. When asked if they had fun in Art today they replied, "YES!!! We love Mrs. Christensen ... she always has fun things to make, and we LOVE our new jelly fish!"
Thank you, Mrs. Christensen, for making Art Class such a wonderful experience for our students here at Spanish Oaks.
The UVU Owls' mascot came to help Spanish Oaks celebrate reading! There were fun games, book give-aways, music and 2 bike winners. Our bike winners were: Margaret in Mr. Lovell's class, and Brakin in Miss Mellor's Kindergarten class. A HUGE congratulations to them, and a "thank you" to our PTA for another great reading celebration!
Our PTA was so excited to recognize and reward some "Outstanding" individuals at Spanish Oaks today ... Mr. Todd Bradford was selected as the "PTA Golden Apple Outstanding Teacher." The PTA Golden Apple Award for Outstanding Educators recognizes a professional educator currently working with students in grades preschool-12. Mr. Bradford, who was nominated by an appreciative parent, is dedicated to the learning of ALL his fourth grade students, both past and present. We are proud of you, Mr. Bradford!
Our PTA also recognized Misty Bard as our school's "Utah PTA Outstanding Volunteer." Mrs. Bard is "fiercely committed to Spanish Oaks Elementary and spends enormous amounts of personal time serving the needs of our students." Thank you, Misty, for ALL you do for our students, and our school.
And last, but not least, Mrs. Brown was nominated for "Outstanding Administrator". She is always available for the teachers and students, meeting each of their needs before her own. She has helped to create a warm and loving atmosphere here in our school that is commented on by outsiders as they visit. We are so grateful to have such an amazing principal here at Spanish Oaks! Thank you, Mrs. Brown!
Spanish Oak's very own second grader, Carter B., took 6th place at the Art City International Chess Tournament on Saturday. There were 28 other second graders, and Carter was SO excited to get a trophy! Thank you, Carter, for representing our school with pride.
Carter's mom reports, "Carter was on our chess app on the phone learning tricks and practicing intently in between each of the 5 rounds. He was totally in the zone all day and told me he 'wants to go to every chess competition ever.' I'm pretty sure we have more tournaments in our future!" Congratulations, Carter ... check mate!!
We invite students in first through sixth grade who want to sing with the Spanish Oaks Choir to register. We start practicing for our spring performances on Wednesday, January 27th, at 8:00 to 8:45 a.m. in the Little Theater.
