Spelling Bee at Spanish Oaks

The Spelling EXTRA Club Spelling Bee was a blast!  Mrs. Aagard did a fantastic job as the judge; she was excellent.  The students did a great job and had fun!  We are so proud of them ... ALL the students in the competition had nerves of steel!

The winners were:
Aidan Huhtala, 1st Place
Anabel Chavez, 2nd Place
Allison Christiansen, 3rd Place

Thanks to all who participated in making this a success, especially Ashley Christriansen, who organized and implemented our Spelling EXTRA program, as well as this celebration event!

We Treasure Our Students at Spanish Oaks

Every week teachers send the name of someone in their class who has been a "treasure" that week.  We announced their name(s) today and invited them to come to the office for a special "thank you"!  They added their personal quilt square to our “We Matter” quilt hanging outside the main office!!  Thank you, students, for doing things that matter at Spanish Oaks!

Road To Success Assembly with the UVU Wolverines

We had a great time with Willy the Wolverine and a group of awesome athletes from UVU today as we celebrated reading.  Our two bikes went to Jenna Woods and Sam Jones.  Congratulations!  We were also able to give certificates for two more bikes to our Walk More in Four school winners, Kolton Friel and Benjamin Bigler.  Keep on reading!

CupCakes for Chipmunk . . . And our First Graders

This week in Mrs. Phelps' class, we read and discussed a story called "Cupcake Party" in our shared reading books.  It is a story about a chipmunk who wanted to have a party with his friends.  Because chipmunk cared so much about his friends,he wanted to do something special for them.  So he made each of his friends a cupcake and frosted a picture of each friend onto their own cupcake.  Our class decided it would be fun to have our own cupcake party, so we worked hard to earn the pieces of our class cupcake puzzle and then celebrated with our own version of a cupcake party.   We frosted cupcakes and even got our own picture on top of our cupcakes.  Our class is awesome!

Learning Edge Conference Team Building

Our Spanish Oaks SPED Team was pleased to attend The Learning Edge Conference together ...  "Growing the Minds of All" was the focus, with speakers presenting ideas on growth mindset, meeting the needs of gifted and talented students, the powerful tool of story, etc.  It was a wonderful team building opportunity and we are grateful for the day spent learning alongside each other.

PTA and Parents Promoting Reading in our School

Thank you to everyone who browsed our PTA Book Fair last month.  The fair was a huge success!  In addition to getting great books into students' hands, the PTA was able to purchase $1200 in new books for our very own school library, and buy over 100 books to give away FREE to students at our reading assemblies.  A big 'thank you' to Spanish Oaks parents for promoting reading in our school!
