March "Race Into Reading" Assembly

If you have 1,732,378 minutes, does it always go with cool music?  Loud cheers?  Over 100 books AND 6 brand new bikes given away?  It does if they are reading minutes at Spanish Oaks Elementary!!!  Mrs. Brown rocked the school, with the help of Mr. Crockett providing the tunes, at our March "Race into Reading" Assembly.  Spanish Oaks children read, read and read ... and the minutes prove it!  So does the love of reading that the children here have developed!  Keep up the great work and READ READ READ!

2nd Grade Program at Spanish Oaks

Our amazing second grade students at Spanish Oaks treated the whole school, and their famlies, to a fun-filled, totally unique program ... The show featured songs from Frozen, Lilo and Stitch, and Toy Story, along with a completely original rendition of The Gingerbread Man.  These talented performers brought the house down with their very own depiction of, "What Does the Fox Say?"  Well done, second grade!  We laughed until we cried and clapped until our hands hurt!

National School Breakfast Week Contest Winner

Nebo School District celebrated National School Breakfast Week March 3-7.  The 2014 theme for this annual event was “Take Time for School Breakfast”.  The district held an art contest and students had the opportunity to create a picture to enter and maybe win a prize.  We are so excited to announce the winner from our school:  Zoe McEwen!!  This wonderful second grader drew an amazing picture (attached) and won her very own awesome basketball!!!  Congratulations, Zoe ... We are so proud of you!!

Staff Spotlight: Our Amazing Lunch Ladies!

Do you know what comes with 14 children, dream vacations to Hawaii, diving in Fiji, gardening, crafts, sewing, and working out???  Our amazing lunch ladies, Mrs. Shiloh Slaymaker, Mrs. Kim Bjarnson, Mrs. Terisa Hedger, and Mrs. Regina Dillman ... and a fruit or veggie cup.  We are so lucky to have these great ladies here making our favorites everyday!  Pizza, tacos, and corn dogs are their favorites, too!  They love to see the bright smiling faces of our children here at Spanish Oaks.  Last week we had Complimentary Breakfast Day!  It was such a hit that the number of those enjoying breakfast has more than doubled since!!!  "Thank you" to these terrific ladies for all they do every day!

Diamond Fork Jr. High: Promoting the Arts!

Gregg Crockett, 6th Grade Teacher

Wednesday, March 12, Diamond Fork Junior High School came to share their talents with the 6th grade students of Spanish Oaks Elementary.  In trying to promote the arts program, Diamond Fork Jr. High had a short performance for the students who will be joining them next year at the junior high.  Demonstrations were provided for the different types of instruments, using some popular music from movies and radio.  The performance was capped off with a percussion extravaganza!  Five percussionists, using 7 trash cans, put on a fun final number of rhythm.  What a great way for the 6th graders to see some of the things they can do if they join the band next year when they leave grade school!

Alice in Wonderland ... An Amazing Adventure!

Thank you to all who came out and supported our very own Spanish Oaks Children’s Theater Players in this year’s 2014 performance of Alice in Wonderland!  It was an amazing adventure for each of us and we thank you for joining us!!  A very special THANK YOU to Miranda Duke, Erin Smith and Angie Warner, and all our awesome parent helpers, for their efforts in providing this wonderful opportunity for our children!
