Successful Book Fair at Spanish Oaks

A huge THANK YOU to all of our Spanish Oaks families for supporting our PTA Book Fair last week!  We hope you read and enjoy at home many fun new books this fall season.  Our Book Fair was so successful, you all made it possible to purchase 250 new titles for our take-home library, add over $500 in new books to teachers' classrooms and purchase over $800 in books to give away free to students (watch for many happy book winners at our Nov. 7th reading assembly).  In addition, the PTA is hoping to help purchase new guided reading book sets in the coming months.  Spanish Oaks families are heroes when it comes to reading!!!

Third Graders Enjoy Harry Potter Sorting

This year the third graders at Spanish Oaks are reading Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone. In the book, the students participate in a sorting ceremony which is a ritual performed at the beginning of each school year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Its purpose is to assign students to one of the four school HousesGryffindorHufflepuffRavenclaw, or Slytherin. This gives them the opportunity to learn and work with their house team throughout the year to earn house points and rewards for their hard work in school. On October 27th the third-grade students were excited to participate in their very own sorting ceremony. It was a fun and exciting event! The gym was decorated in the colors of each house and we had many parents come out to support and cheer the students on. Each student tried on the sorting hat and the hat identified important characteristics that the student possesses. Then the students were sorted into one of the four school houses; Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw or Slytherin. Our sixth grade also joined in on the fun by welcoming the newly sorted students into their houses.  After the sorting, the students were able to go back to class and learn about house points and how they will be working together as a team to earn rewards and participate in fun activities throughout the rest of the school year.

Always a "Poppin" Good Time in Kindergarten

ABC Celebration in Kindergarten!!  Miss Mellor's Kindergarten kids had a "poppin" good time celebrating our first trip through the ABC's.  Miss Mellor dumped a huge bag of balloons on the carpet and each student got to pop a balloon.  Hiding inside that balloon  was a letter of the alphabet.   As soon as we popped all the balloons and found all the letters we put them in ABC order on our chart.
