Wednesday, October 7, 2015 is International Walk to School Day at Spanish Oaks Elementary! Please join us in promoting healthy habits of exercise, being outdoors and walking/bike safety. Students, staff and faculty are invited to wear GREEN this day to help us remember to walk/bike safely. Parent helpers will be strategically placed along the way to school, watching for students who are following the safety rules and making healthy choices.
"International Walk to School Day is a global event that involves communities from more than 40 countries walking and biking to school on the same day. It began in 1997 as a one-day event. Over time, this event has become part of a movement for year-round safe routes to school and a celebration – with record breaking participation – each October. Today, thousands of schools across America – from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico – participate every October."
Come join us and wear GREEN as you ... Walk/Bike to School!
Spanish Oaks had 124 students participate and submit Walk More in Four entry forms during the month of September. Each of these students will be entered into a state-wide drawing for bikes, scooters and helmets. The class with the most participation was Mrs. Dyches/Mrs. Taylor 6th grade class, and the 6th grade, as a whole, had the most forms submitted.
"The top three schools with the highest percentage of student participation will receive $500, $250 and $100, respectively. Any student who participates can also win a bike or scooter, and a helmet." We had 24% participation for our school! The SNAP Team will be drawing for prizes on October 7.
Participating in Walk More in Four brought our school one step closer to being named a Utah Top Walking & Biking School, with the possibility of receiving even more recognition and rewards. Keep walking, Explorers!

2nd Graders in Mrs. Graham’s class had an Author’s Party today! They celebrated the fact that they were all authors, by reading their first narrative stories of the year to each other. In order to see which story would be read next, they popped balloons that had each of the students’ names in them. The author who was reading got to wear our special party hat. Each student received a pencil party favor so that they can continue to be awesome authors in second grade!
A group of fourth, fifth and sixth grade students are having a blast working with representatives from UVU in our Robotics EXTRA Team.
