Miss McKendrick's Fourth Grade Class Make "Fossils"

Submitted by sherri.peterson on

In Miss McKendrick's class the last few weeks we have been learning about different ways creatures and tracks can be fossilized. One way is for a dinosaur to fall into a body of water and over time the bone cells are filled with mineral water. The minerals harden, the bone wastes away, and what is left is the fossil (hardened minerals/rock) in the exact same shape as the dinosaur from long ago. Our class demonstrated this by having the dinosaur bones (sponge) fall into the water (sodium silicate).

First Grade Demolition Derby

Submitted by sherri.peterson on

In 1st grade, we’ve been working all week on double-digit addition with regrouping. Today we got to have a monster truck “Demolition Derby” to practice everything we’ve learned. Various trucks faced off and after solving all the problems, the truck who regrouped the most moved on to the next round. We were so excited to work to find the ultimate champion!

Owl Moon

As an extension to reading the book "Owl Moon" students drew their very own owl and created a simile to describe their owl. The students also learned a fun song that is based off of "Owl Moon" which included fun actions and instruments.

Mrs. Stewart's Class Plays Adverb Charades

Submitted by sherri.peterson on

Mrs. Stewart’s class has been learning about adverbs. This week they were able to participate in a fun lesson where they played adverb charades. Each student picked a verb and an adverb and then acted it out for their group, who then had to guess what verb they were acting out and the adverb. They had so much fun trying to guess!

Minute to Win It with Mrs. Quinton

Submitted by sherri.peterson on

The sixth graders were rewarded for their awesome behavior throughout term 2 by playing some Minute to Win it games. They had to compete in games like bottle flipping, cup stacking and picking up pasta noodles with spaghetti! They had so much fun with this friendly competition, and got to release their energy through some fun games.
