New Drop OFF Pick UP Protocol

Submitted by kali.brown on Fri, 09/30/2016 - 16:54

To keep our students and teachers safe, we have taken your feedback and come up with a new Drop OFF /Pick UP protocol that will hopefully meet the needs of everyone.

  1. Pick UP/Drop OFF in all three (3) school entrance(s):

All Drop OFF/Pick UP area(s) are ONE WAY ONLY:  Enter from the East ... Exit from the West.  Drop OFF/Pick UP zones are to:  Drop OFF students and Pick UP students.  Please do NOT park cars in the Drop OFF/Pick UP area(s).  If you need to enter the school, you need to please park in a parking space.  Thank you for pulling all the way forward in each area to keep traffic flowing.

  1. "Walking Student" Crossing

Students walking/biking to school will turn RIGHT on the corner and walk along the east fence-line.  Our Crossing Guard will be stationed on the south-east sidewalk corner.  Students will cross, with the help of a teacher, in the designated/identified "crosswalk" from the fence-line, across the parking lot "crosswalk", to the south-east corner of the front of our school.  Students can then go either to the back of the school (bikes, rear entrance, playground, etc.) or enter through our front automatic doors.

At the end of the day ...  Students who exit the front of the building to walk/bike home will cross with the teacher from the south-east corner of the front of the school, walk across the parking lot "crosswalk", and walk up the east fence-line to the Crossing Guard.  They will then turn left and head safely home.

Teachers' Favorite Things at Spanish Oaks

Submitted by kali.brown on Fri, 09/30/2016 - 16:25

Our wonderful PTA has updated our "Teachers' Favorite Things" display outside the office in the East hallway of the school.  The purpose of this display is to not only get to know our amazing teachers better, but in the event a parent or student would like to "gift" them something, this information will help with useful gift ideas.  There are items listed from their favorite snack and hobbies, to classroom supplies they could always use more of!  Please feel free to take a look the next time you are at the school!

Students MATTER at Spanish Oaks

Submitted by kali.brown on Fri, 09/30/2016 - 12:09

This week teachers sent the name of someone in their class who was a "treasure" this week, doing things that matter.  We announced their name(s) on Friday morning and invited them to come to the office for a special "thank you"!  Each weekly recipient added their personal quilt square to the “We Matter” quilt we have hanging outside the main office.  They also got to choose a treasure from our giant treasure box.  Students MATTER at Spanish Oaks!

PTA SNAP Walk More in 4

Submitted by kali.brown on Thu, 09/29/2016 - 16:21

Hello Spanish Oaks Families,

We are coming to a close with the SNAP Walk More in 4 program.  We hope your kids have been keeping track of the days they have walked either online or on the form handed out at the begining of the month.

Please have your child bring this form back filled out (please see attachment) no later than Monday October 3, 2016 so we have time to send them off in the mail.

To celebrate all our 'safe' walking this month, we will participate in our "rescheduled" Walk to School Day on October 14, 2016.  We invite all students to wear green and walk or bike to school.  If they would like to participate, please have your student arrive by 8:45 a.m. to join our party in the back of the school!

Happy Walking,

Kelly Burtenshaw
PTA President

PTA Wear Green Walk to School Day

Submitted by kali.brown on Wed, 09/28/2016 - 16:34

Spanish Oaks Elementary is participating in our "rescheduled" Walk to School Day on Friday, October 14, 2016.  We invite you to join children and adults around the world to celebrate the benefits of walking, biking, skating, etc.

Wear Green as a reminder to “go” safely as you walk or bike to school!

When a “Walk to School Volunteer” sees you being safe by ...

  • Walking on sidewalks and not playing in or near the streets!
  • Crossing at crosswalks or at a corner if a crosswalk is not available!
  • Walking with a buddy!
  • Wearing a helmet!
  • Looking both ways before crossing!

... they will give you a green slip of paper to enter your name into a drawing.  Awesome prizes will be given out at the end of the school day!

Jess Babcock

Today Miss Babcock's class had the pleasure of talking with Dave Larsen, who has dedicated over 20 years and counting, to our country.  They learned what REM's are, the 5 different branches of the military, and countless other wonderful bits of information.  We are so grateful to be Americans, and even more grateful to all of those wonderful men and women who risk their lives each day for our freedom.  Thank you, Dave!
