This year at Spanish Oaks we used the book "Ordinary Mary's Extraordinary Deed" as a kick off to our new theme for the year. Our students will be highlighted for extraordinary deeds that they do for their schoolmates, and will be able to sign our grade level blueberry muffins as "extraordiberries"! Here we have our very first extraordiberries for the new school year! Nice job, students! We are looking forward to a "berry" good year!
The upper-grade students at Spanish Oaks were treated to an amazing assembly to introduce the Learning Through Robotics after-school program starting in September. Participating students will learn to build and program educational robots, with applications in math and STEM programs. Miss Jaylene helped the students get excited about our upcoming class; she even brought actual robots! We are so excited to learn about robotics this year!
Mrs. Dimmick was thinking outside the box as she taught her third graders how to round, going "UP' when they get to five. Fun times!
Can one good deed from an ordinary person change the world? Well, we are going to find out ... This year at Spanish Oaks we are focusing on doing Extraordinary Deeds for those around us. We will work to perform good deeds for others, which will multiply as they are passed on by those who have been touched by our acts of kindness. It is going to be an EXTRAORDINARY year!
On Friday, August 28 from 6:00pm-7:30pm, our amazing PTA will host a 'Welcome Back to School' family movie night! We will be showing the Disney classic: Robin Hood. Bring your blankets, chairs, pillows, snacks, etc., and join us for a great evening! Drinks and popcorn will be available for $0.50 each, and we will be meeting in the gym.
Things our first week ran smoothly ... with crossing guards, kindergarten pre-assessments, lunch being served, teachers on recess duty, Mrs. Brown reading, and secretaries assisting students! Welcome back teachers, students and parents!
Jessica Young in coming to us from the state of Washington, where she grew up. She did her internship in the second grade at Canyon School. She graduated from BYU. She loves to go running and play tennis. Some of her favorite books are the “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie” books by Laura Numeroff. She is so excited for an awesome school year here at Spanish Oaks. She has joined our amazing second grade and her students love her already! Welcome, Jessica!
The students enjoyed watching the teachers' skits to help them remember our school rules. They are going to be great citizens in our halls, computer lab, lunchroom, etc. Here's to a great year!
A huge thank you to the PTA for their donation to purchase iPads for our K-2nd grades. We are SO excited and appreciative!!!
