Submitted by sherri.peterson on

We are excited to announce our first annual Kindness Week here at Spanish Oaks.  We have some fun and exciting activities, songs, challenges, etc. to enjoy throughout the week.  We will be sharing quotes from the students each morning on the announcements, and doing our best to pass out over 2,000 “Caught ya’ Being Kind” slips to recognize acts of kindness going on around us.  Here are just a few of the things we will be enjoying throughout the week:

Monday:  Say good morning to 15 people

Living Worms in Third Grade

Submitted by sherri.peterson on

We learn about living and non living things in 3rd grade. The students have been discussing the 8 characteristics that make something living. Today they were able to see how live worms react to: light, heat and water. Each student made a prediction, observed what happened and came up with a conclusion for why they thought the worm reacted in a certain way.

Paper Bag Princess Still Shots

Submitted by sherri.peterson on

Mrs. Baldwin's class had a great time acting out parts of the story Paper Bag Princess by Robert Munsch.  It was a fun learning experience!  Our Drama Specialist taught us to do stills of a story to keep students involved and to boost comprehension. It works well.   You do see two dragons flying because two students wanted to be the dragon who kidnapped the prince.

A Simple, But Amazing Act of Kindness Shown to Spanish Oaks Students

Submitted by sherri.peterson on

Here at Spanish Oaks, we have a crossing guard who comes before and after school and helps kids safely cross the street. That is not all that this crossing guard does, everyday she gives away handmade hats that she crocheted to the kids. She doesn’t know most of the kids but she still gives away hats to as many kids as she can. Most students just know her as the crosswalk lady or the hat lady. We thought we should give her some appreciation for her amazing acts of kindness, and get to know her a little better.
